Kybella® Treatment in Miami, FL
Define Your Profile Without Surgery
Kybella® is FDA-approved for the treatment of moderate to severe fullness associated with submental fat — the technical term for what’s commonly called a double chin. Excess fat beneath the chin can soften the jawline and disrupt overall facial balance, subtly changing how the profile reads even when the rest of the face hasn’t changed. Addressing it is part of maximizing natural beauty and restoring a more youthful, defined profile. Chloe Goldman, MD, FAAD evaluates each patient before treatment since not every case of chin fullness is caused by excess fat.
How Kybella® Works
Kybella® is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a substance the body naturally produces to break down dietary fat. Injected directly into the treatment area, it permanently destroys fat cells at the injection site, and the body gradually clears them over the following weeks.
Fat vs. Skin Laxity
Not all submental fullness is caused by excess fat — some patients have fullness driven primarily by skin laxity, or loose skin, rather than fat volume. Kybella® will not meaningfully improve fullness caused by loose skin alone. Accurately diagnosing whether the underlying cause is fat, skin laxity, or a combination of both matters before any treatment is recommended, since treating the wrong cause leads to disappointing results.
Why See a Board-Certified Dermatologist?
An area of fullness beneath the chin that looks like excess fat can occasionally be something else, such as an enlarged lymph node or a benign growth. As a board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Chloe Goldman evaluates the underlying cause before recommending Kybella® or any alternative, ensuring the treatment matches the actual concern rather than the surface appearance alone.
Beyond the Chin
While treating submental fullness, or a double chin, is Kybella®'s most common use, it's also used off-label in other areas of stubborn fat where a similar fat-dissolving effect is desired. Candidacy for these off-label applications is discussed individually, since FDA approval specifically covers the submental area.
What to Expect
Kybella® is administered as a series of small injections, with most sessions taking 15 to 20 minutes. Swelling and sometimes bruising are common for several days to a week afterward. Most patients need 3 to 6 treatments spaced at least a month apart for full results.
