How Wrinkle Relaxers Work
Why Unit-Based Pricing Matters
Transparent, unit-based pricing reflects exactly how much product is used, rather than a vague “per area” price that can hide dilution or lower the dosing that a patient assumes they’re receiving. Goldman Dermatology of Miami prices treatment by the unit specifically so patients know exactly what they’re paying for and can compare value accurately, rather than guessing at what’s included in a flat area-based fee.
What a Consultation Involves
A consultation starts with an assessment of the face as a whole — not just an isolated wrinkle or line. Our providers evaluate specific facial muscle patterns and movement, including how the forehead, brows, or crow’s feet move during expression, alongside the patient’s desired look and overall facial balance. Neuromodulators are used not only to soften lines but to highlight and shape facial features — subtly lifting a brow or refining an expression — to bring out each patient’s best rather than simply erasing movement. This assessment determines the number of units required for that patient’s anatomy and goals, since two people with the same wrinkle can require meaningfully different dosing based on muscle strength, size, and desired outcome.
What Age Should I Start Botox?
There isn't a particular age at which someone should start wrinkle relaxer injections; the right time is when dynamic facial movements are beginning to create visible wrinkles, regardless of the number on a birthday cake. The goal is to treat those dynamic movements before creases become permanent, or etched in, which is why some patients start in their late twenties while others don't require treatment until later.
How Long Results Last
Most wrinkle relaxer injections last three to four months before movement and expression return to the treated area. This is just an average, but some people’s wrinkle relaxers last longer and others last shorter. Dose plays a significant role in duration — generally, the more units used, the longer the neuromodulator will last before wearing off. Results and duration also vary by product and by individual muscle strength, which our providers factor into a patient's treatment schedule over the course of a year.
Why an Assessment by a Board-Certified Dermatologist Matters
Facial anatomy varies meaningfully from patient to patient; muscle strength, skin thickness, and the specific pattern of wrinkles all influence how a treatment plan should be dosed. Chloe Goldman, MD, FAAD and our providers bring detailed training in facial anatomy and skin behavior to every assessment, informing precise, individualized dosing rather than applying the same unit count and pattern to every patient regardless of their anatomy.
